Dutch Carnival
Each year for the three days before Lent, much of the south of The Netherlands holds a massive party. Many cities and towns adopt a new name for the period, for example, Den Bosch becomes Oeteldonk. Each place has its own customs for fancy dress and the streets are full of revellers. There are parades and bands and an awful lot of drinking.
These images were taken in March of 2025. As well as Den Bosch, I visited Breda, Eindhoven, Tilburg and Maastricht. This is a selection of hundreds of shots taken over three days.
